What foods trigger fever blisters?

High-arginine foods are the main dietary trigger: chocolate, nuts (especially peanuts, almonds, walnuts), seeds, whole grains in large amounts, and some proteins. Arginine is required for HSV-1 replication. Reducing these during outbreaks and increasing lysine-rich foods (fish, chicken, eggs, dairy, legumes) can help.
